There will be special honours to Private Arthur Vanance, of Kenora Ontario.
“The grave of a Canadian soldier who went missing in the Netherlands during the Second World War has been identified as that of Private Arthur Vanance, according to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.” “Second World War Soldier Identified as man form Kenora after nearly 80 years.”
“[Private Arthur] Vanance, who served with the 1st Battalion of the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor), was killed in action on Feb. 15, 1945, near the Dutch town of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. But, for decades, he was listed as missing with no known grave.”
“His final resting place was confirmed through extensive historical and archival research by the Casualty Identification Program. His grave is located at Holten Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands, where a headstone rededication ceremony will be held at a later date.”
Our Padre Phil Ralph, CD Captain (Ret’d) Director, Health Services, Wounded Warriors Canada, said, “Once the details of the headstone rededication ceremony are released, we can plan to include a visit to Pte. Arthur Vanance’s grave in our visit.”
